Non-Profit Organization Seeks San Diego Families to Host International Exchange Students

San Diego, CA, May 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Travel abroad in the comfort of your own home while contributing to your country by sharing your home and everyday life with an AYUSA high school exchange student.

AYUSA is the leading global non-profit organization supported by the U.S. Department of State to offer life changing opportunities to promising young students between the ages of 15 to 18 for over 25 years. Throughout the student’s semester or year attending high school in San Diego, both the host families and the students are supported by AYUSA’s network of devoted community-based staff members.

Right now, AYUSA needs local San Diego families to share their home and everyday life with an AYUSA high school exchange student.

AYUSA students come from over 60 countries and are accepted into the program based on their maturity and academic excellence. They are eager to experience life as a member of your family and community while attending local high schools. Welcoming an AYUSA student into your home is a great way to share your American values and pride with an enthusiastic young person and to also expel any false beliefs about America abroad. AYUSA students become an integral part of your family and you’ll be surprised how you start to view everyday things in a new light; consider taking them to the popular San Diego Zoo to view rare giant pandas and cuddly looking koalas, introducing them to the relaxing and beautiful Mission Beach, or teaching them about America’s Navy history at the USS Midway Museum. The effect you will have on this young student’s life is sure to last beyond their time in San Diego, and your family will be forever appreciative of the new cultural insights that your host student shared with you.

“Hosting is a way for my family, especially my children, to ‘visit’ other countries without leaving home. It goes beyond a geography lesson because it is more than just learning where a particular country is; you are interacting with a young person, learning their ways and culture. It also gives my children the opportunity to share their home, their parents, their friends, and even their pets with a new person.” --Olimpia Overholser, Host mom.

Don’t let the opportunity to host an AYUSA exchange student pass, make a difference in the life of a young person this year. Interested families can call 888-552-9872 to learn more about this opportunity. Alternatively please visit AYUSA online at www.ayusa.org to apply to host a young person.
