Rocky Hollow Press Rolls Out Illustrated Book -- Peter Pigeon of Snug Harbor
• National Roll-Out of award-winning book Peter Pigeon of Snug Harbor will take place on National Pigeon day, June 13, 2009. • Former East Village performance artist & rock musician, Ed Weiss reinvents himself as children’s book writer/illustrator on Staten Island.
Staten Island, NY, May 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- It’s been a busy month at the Rocky Hollow Press in Stapleton, Staten Island. On May 2 (the birthday of Stapleton stalwart Cornelius Vanderbilt), The Press both launched its first title, Peter Pigeon of Snug Harbor, and debuted its website www.rockyhollowpress.com. Now the tiny start-up is gearing up for the national roll-out of Peter Pigeon of Snug Harbor, which will take place on National Pigeon Day, June 13. Like its avian protagonist, Peter Pigeon, Rocky Hollow Press, will sail across New York harbor on the Staten Island Ferry in a journey that promises to be just as eventful as the one described in the book.
Rocky Hollow Press is bringing its original illustrations of Peter Pigeon of Snug Harbor for its very own art show on Pilgrim Hill in Central Park to join in America’s largest National Pigeon Day ceremony (http://www.nationalpigeonday.blogspot.com/). “We’re extremely pleased to be part of the festivities,” noted Eva Sandstrom, The Press’ publisher. It’s a great holiday that reflects not only the incredible contributions pigeons have made to Western civilization, but also what can be accomplished when we work together with our Nato allies to make the world safe for democracy.” Ms. Sandstrom is referring to the fact that the June 13 date of National Pigeon day commemorates the anniversary of the passing of Cher Ami, an English Bird with a French name that saved the lives of approximately 200 American soldiers in France during World War 1. Cher Ami was not just the only Pigeon to win the Croix de Guerre, he was also the only non-human to receive France’s highest military honor. “I have no doubt Cher Ami would enjoy art show and the whole celebration if he was still if he was still around, “ Ms. Sandstrom commented.
Accompanying, The Rocky Hollow Press art exhibit, will be Ed Weiss, the author/illustrator of Peter Pigeon of Snug Harbor, who will be on hand to autograph books and discuss the intricacies of pigeon illustration.
If you wish to join the fun, National Pigeon Day Ceremonies in Central Park take place between Noon - 4 pm at Pilgrim Hill in Central Park (enter on northwest corner of 5th Avenue & East 72nd Street).
