Riverboarding Demos Offered at the US National Whitewater Center
Appalachian Riverboarding is offering riverboarding demos to the public on the last Wednesday of each month from June through September.
Charlotte, NC, June 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Appalachian Riverboarding in partnership with Face Level Industries will be offering riverboard demos at the US National Whitewater Center outside of Charlotte throughout the summer. Pending Whitewater Center release days, the demos will be on the last Wednesday of each month as follows: June 24, July 29th, August 26th, and September 30th.
Riverboarding is an activity akin to ocean bodyboarding, but on a whitewater river with a more buoyant board. Riverboarders also wear safety equipment such as pads, helmet, personal flotation device (PFD aka life jacket), as well as wetsuits for warmth, and fins for steering and propulsion. Riverboarding offers a more intimate and exciting personal connection with the river than rafting because you are in the water and you control your own board, but it doesn't require you to learn how to roll as in kayaking.
Appalachian Riverboarding guide and owner, Kevin Yount, first took up riverboarding in 2003 and has been guiding others on the water since 2004. He is sponsored as a CORE Team Athlete for Face Level Industries and is also their East Coast rep. Additionally, he represents Faveur clothing, Globe shoes, Steel MX optics, and Tooks headphones as a sponsored rider.
Appalachian Riverboarding does not charge for demos at the Whitewater Center, but participants will need to pay the daily fee of $ 20.00 to the Center. Participants need to be at least 12 years old and those under 18 will need their parent or guardian present to sign a waiver. Due to equipment and board limitations, Yount can guarantee each participant about 2-3 hours on the water which includes an hour of instruction before letting participants ride on their own for the rest of the time. Interested participants need to contact Yount to reserve a time slot.
Appalachian Riverboarding also offers guided trips on rivers in the Blue Ridge and Great Smokey Mountains.
