Galveston Hotel - ‘Haunted’ Hotel Galvez Offers Ghost Tour Package
Galveston, TX, October 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Spirits believed to roam Hotel Galvez are preparing to welcome guests who arrive for the Ghosts of the Galvez package.
Guests who elect the two-night package will join the concierge who will lead a tour using an electromagnetic field detector and infrared thermometer to conduct their own paranormal investigation for ghosts in the 98-year-old beachfront hotel. As a souvenir, the package includes a copy of Ghosts Along the Texas Coast by Docia Schultz Williams. Guests will also receive a 10 percent discount on a special fall themed treatment of their choice at The Spa at the Hotel Galvez to relax after their frightful tour plus a 25 percent discount at Bernardo’s Restaurant.
“Over the years, guests have reported seeing or feeling a presence in some parts of the hotel primarily on the fifth floor,” says Hotel Galvez Concierge Jackie Hasan who leads the ghost tours. “There is also a story a heartbroken bride-to-be still waiting in Room 501 for her lost love.”
She adds, “In 1900, Galveston was the site of the worst natural disaster in United States history to that point and an estimated 6,000 people lost their lives. Although the hotel opened in 1911, I think that sometimes these lost souls lose their way.”
Recently, the hotel was the site of an investigation by The Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab program to air in the fall.
The Ghosts of Galvez package, a two-night package, is available Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 for $525 on Friday and Saturday and $325 Sunday through Thursday, based on double occupancy. Ghost tours are offered Wednesday through Sunday for guests at 5:30 p.m. On Thursdays, beginning Oct. 8, the public can participate in the regularly scheduled ghost tour at 5:30 p.m. for $10. Tickets are available in the gift shop.
The Hotel Galvez was built as a symbol of Galveston’s resilience following the Great Storm of 1900. A group of businessmen pulled their resources and raised $1 million to open the hotel on June 10, 1911.
The Hotel Galvez, A Wyndham® Historic Hotel and a National Trust Historic Hotel of America, remains the only historic beachfront hotel in Galveston. The Hotel Galvez is rated four diamonds by AAA and owned by Galveston preservationists Cynthia and George Mitchell and is part of Mitchell Historic Properties.
