Math 1 On 1, LLC Author Wins Entrepreneur Award
Last year's runner up of the Frasernet Power Networking Elevator Pitch Olympics is this year's winner.
Atlanta, GA, June 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Business Woman and Author Wins Frasernet 2010 Power Networking Conference Elevator Pitch Olympics
Saundra Carter, known to her clients as “The Math Lady” returned to Frasernet’s 9th Annual Power Networking Conference held June 10-12, 2010 at the Marriot Marquis Hotel in downtown Atlanta, GA.
In less than two minutes, “The Math Lady” proposed how her company Math 1 On 1, LLC would host a Math SAT Boot Camp for youth. This boot camp would not only educate students on Math SAT test taking strategies and math skills needed to earn more points on the math portion of the SAT, but also inspire young people to succeed. The pitch described how the youth would have the opportunity to interact with famous persons who have succeeded in the fields of math and science.
Last year she was runner-up in the contest. This year she won the competition by giving a two minute dissertation to esteemed judges representing the best of the medical field, media, airlines, and the legal community as well as a live audience.
The elevator pitch was inspired by an actual SAT Math Boot Camp that Math 1 On 1, LLC is hosting on October 16, 2010 in Snellville, GA at the Centerville Community Center located at 3025 Bethany Church Road. Carter’s first publication “How to Help Parents and Kids Get Over the Fear of Math” will be used as one of the teaching tools in the Math SAT Boot Camp.
Math SAT Boot Camps are needed because Georgia’s average SAT scores decreased for the third consecutive year in a row according to August 2009 statistics. As a result, Georgia maintains its ranking as 47th in the nation. In 2009, Georgia students scored 491 out of a possible 800 points on the Math portion of the SAT. Additionally, Georgia students lag 24 points behind the nation in the Math portion of the SAT. [1]
This SAT Math Boot Camp will destroy 3 myths about math. The first myth is that “Girls Cannot Do Math.” To learn the other two myths, Carter recommends attending the Math SAT Boot Camp.
As the winner of the competition, Carter is expected to receive a $50 gas card from Exxon/Mobil and one Frasernet Platinum Membership for one year.
Carter’s business coach Mr. Andrew Morrison of the Small Business Camp had this to say "As a former Electrical Engineer turned Motivational Speaker, I know from first-hand experience the importance of good math skills in a child's academic development. Hats off to Saundra for taking the lead in bringing math to America's youth."
Carter stated “I am very thankful for the opportunity to enlarge the territory of Math 1 On 1, LLC at the Frasernet Power Networking Conference. More students will be helped as we make people aware of math workshops available for the youth. We are offering companies both large and small the opportunity to sponsor youth to attend; thus, taking steps to closing the educational divide in regard to math.”
Kiara Williams a graduate of Southwest DeKalb High School had this to say after being personally tutored by Carter “My tutor was very helpful. I understand the math better. I have more confidence in my work. My grade increased and I passed my [Geometry] class.”
Kiara’s father, Ernest Williams stated “As a parent I am very thankful for the help that my daughter received during her session with her tutor. … Just sitting there listening to the one-on-one relationship between my daughter and her tutor really put a smile on my face because it built confidence into my daughter knowing that she now could attack each problem and solve it. She ended her school year on the honor roll and because of your teaching she's still on the march to being an honor graduate ...”
