Prince’s Trust Opens Door for Business to be the Only Online Pet Shop Accepted at 120th Crufts Dog Show
Coventry, United Kingdom, March 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A 10-month old startup called PetShopBowl is proving a success with pet owners who want the convenience of home delivery and the savings that only an online business can generate, and will be the only online pet shop to exhibit at the 120th Crufts dog show which begins on 10th March.
At Crufts, PetShopBowl will be giving away a year’s worth of dog food including products from Hills, Applaws, Harringtons, Arden Grange and Best Pets for the lucky individuals to find one of their lost keys for the Vespa scooter on display at their stand. “We use scooters for deliveries in London offering lower carbon emissions, rapid delivery times and GPS live tracking”.
PetShopBowl was set up by two young entrepreneurs Adam Taylor and Alexandra Tamasan, with help from the Princes Trust Business program. Both were unemployed before coming up with the idea of an online pet shop designed to provide a service to help pet owners. Ten months later the company is on track to achieve turnover pounds £300,000 in its first year of operations.
“The business idea originated from my personal experience of wanting to save money during these harder economic times,” said Adam Taylor. “I also witnessed my mother struggling to carry heavy dry dog food sacks and cat litter for her pets.” Adam’s parents have two dogs and five cats.
PetShopBowl’s website, www.petshopbowl.co.uk, is the first to offer a convenient repeat delivery service called “Bottomless Bowl” and a simple one click reorder feature to save our customers even more money and time. “It occurred to me that most animals eat the same amount of food every day, every week and even every year,” says Adam Taylor, “so why not save money and petrol by buying in bulk and have it delivered to your door?” It seemed to be a service that was missing.
The low cost home delivery service is offered nationwide. Approximately half of all UK households own a pet and the UK has the most valuable pet food market in Europe with sales, estimated to total just under £2.5 billion* in 2010. Sales are supported by the high level of pet ownership and the role of cats and dogs as pampered family members.
“It certainly has been challenging to start a business in the middle of a recession and to gain market share! But with a service that helps customers save money and offering convenience we have seen amazing amount of growth,” said Adam Taylor. “It is a simple, yet obvious service to apply to standardised products such as pet foods.”
In addition to the support of the Princes Trust Business program, PetShopBowl was also accepted onto the West Midlands Ignite Business Incubator programme and operates out of Coventry. The two founders have now employed two others to help with managing orders and web development.
