IT World Canada Acquires Transcontinental Media’s IT Business Group
Combined company to deliver powerful range of print, digital, and live media platforms serving Canada’s information technology community
Toronto, Canada, February 28, 2007 --(PR.com)-- IT World Canada Inc., Canada’s leading technology media company, is pleased to announce that it has acquired Transcontinental Media’s IT Business Group in an agreement finalized today in Toronto. Under the terms of the agreement, IT World Canada acquires all properties and assets of the division.
The combination of the two organizations creates Canada’s premier media company dedicated to serving the country’s information technology (IT) community. The acquisition brings together the strong print, digital, and live event brands developed by both organizations over the past 20 years. With this acquisition IT World Canada now operates, in print: CIO Canada, CIO Government Review, Computer Dealer News, Computerworld Canada, Computing Canada, Direction informatique, Edge, and Network World Canada; online: InterGovWorld.com, ITbusiness.ca, ITworldcanada.com, and PCworld.ca; and more than 40 live events, including Showcase Ontario, Lac Carling Congress, CIO 100, IT 360, and the Frankly Speaking series of executive breakfasts.
There have been seven staff reductions between the two companies to accommodate the merger. There will be no additional personnel changes as a result of the purchase.
“What we do for a living is to build communities. With this acquisition we have acquired some of the best people and brands in the business. It is an important moment for us,” said Michael Atkins, chairman of IT World Canada. “We are committed to bringing outstanding value to our readers, our partners and our advertisers.”
“It’s our expectation that this move will create a true media powerhouse serving the IT community in Canada. While both companies have served their communities well it has become clear that we've also overlapped in some areas of service and as a result, have missed some opportunities,” explained Andrew White, president of IT World Canada. “Over the coming weeks, we will be finalizing the integration of the companies, and reviewing the product portfolios for future synergies. In the meantime, we will maintain all existing properties and work with our clients to ensure a smooth transition over the coming weeks and months.”
According to Joe Tersigni, publisher of the IT Business Group, “There’s no question that the business has changed. Our customers are demanding a sophisticated, broad-based, multi-media platform to reach their prospects and customers. The merger of IT Business Group and IT World Canada better equips us to put our customers first and provide them with important marketing solutions in a fast paced era.”
