North Carolina Cat Rescue Wins Second Round of $300,000 Shelter+ Challenge
In 2011, GreaterGood Network and The Animal Rescue Site will give away $300,000 in grants during Shelter+ Challenge. Halfway through the year, $150,000 already has been awarded to groups of all sizes in all 50 states, Canada, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas, with the latest grand prize going to Blind Cat Rescue in North Carolina.
Seattle, WA, June 24, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In the second round of voting of The Animal Rescue Site’s $300,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com, Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. of St. Pauls, NC, won the $5,000 Grand Prize. Sixty-six other winning shelters and rescue groups received grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 for regional awards, photos submitted by Facebook fans, and other categories.
Many groups had never won a grant before. These first time winners were Jackson County Humane Society, AR; Bright Haven Bliss Adoption Programs, CA; Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc., CA; IMPS (CO/UT/WY region), CO; Pet Refuge, IN; Second Chance Animal Shelter Inc., MA; Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART), ME; Humane Society of Rome Inc. (Rome Humane Society), NY; Frog Pond Farm Draft Horse Rescue, OH; Oklahoma Westie Rescue, OK; Belly Rubs Basset Rescue, TN; and Airedale Terrier Rescue & Adoption, WI.

Visitors can click daily to display a series of ads: 100% of the donations from sponsoring advertisers are donated to Petfinder.com Foundation, Rescue Bank, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Fund for Animals, North Shore Animal League America, and other worthy groups selected by GreaterGood.org. Additional funding is provided through shopping at The Animal Rescue Site store (http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/store) or donations received through the Gifts That Give More [tm] program.
The popular Challenge grants are the only grants whose recipients are decided by visitors to the website. Each day during one of four voting periods, people can cast votes online for their favorite organization.
