Outskirts Press Announces a New Children's Book by Illinois Author Jason Akley - Sweet Pea and the Bumble Bee
Thought-Provoking Children’s Story Explores the Meaning of Existence
Denver, CO, March 28, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Her name is Sweet Pea, and from the moment of her arrival in the garden, she begins to ask questions from one who is wiser, the bumblebee:
“At first all I noticed was the light. Is that the source of my worth? But I also know I have roots. Does that mean I come from the earth?”
Just as humanity has asked since the beginning of recorded time: Who am I? Why do I exist? and What is my purpose for being here? Sweet Pea is no exception, as she struggles to understand her existence.
Sweet Pea and the Bumblebee, by author Jason Akley, uses a simple and sweet background to explore life’s intriguing philosophical concepts as set forth by such well-known philosophers as Aristotle, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Heidegger and Sartre. Though Sweet Pea is a tale told in rhyme to appeal to children, the philosophical nature of the book gives it a quality that transcends a reader’s age. To help guide Sweet Pea in her quest for her life’s meaning, Akley also utilizes wisdom from the verses of Solomon in Ecclesiastes and Buddha’s four basic noble truths.
Jason Akley currently resides in New Athens, Illinois, and is the author of four books. He says of Sweet Pea and the Bumblebee, “Parents and educators are hungry for thought-provoking stories to read to their children. Sweet Pea gives them an opportunity to explore modern and ancient philosophy and discuss with their children the nature of ‘Being.’” Akley has a BS degree from Tulane University in physics and mathematical economics. The writing of Sweet Pea and the Bumblebee was inspired by Akley’s newborn daughter.
