Stanbridge College Receives Award from Red Cross for 82% Donation Increase

Irvine, CA, April 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Stanbridge College was recently recognized by the American Red Cross with the Platinum Sponsorship Award for an 82% increase in blood donated in 2011. The private technical school based in Irvine, California, runs a Red Cross blood drive every quarter as part of their REACH Beyond the Classroom Civic Engagement Initiative. The award, handed out at a Sponsor Recognition event in March, honored businesses, educational institutions and organizations who donated 40% more or over 400 units of blood last year.

Stanbridge College also completed their first quarter’s Red Cross Blood Drive in March donating over 12 pints of blood. This amount, according to the Red Cross, will help save the lives of over 36 people in Orange County and the US.

The Stanbridge College program for community service encourages students to support local and global non-profit organizations. Students are able to take their skills learned in the classroom and apply them to helping those in need. In the past, REACH has partnered with non-profits including CHOC Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and the Free Wheelchair Mission to support those with medical needs.
Stanbridge College vocational nursing program has also partnered with the County of Orange, the OC Medical Reserve Corp and Prime Healthcare Services to provide volunteer support in public health screenings and disaster readiness programs.

Because of its work with over 30 non-profit organizations, REACH at Stanbridge College Stanbridge College has been named to the 2009, 2010 and 2011 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This award is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
