Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Race 13.1 Winston-Salem Half Marathon, 5k and 10k Races to be Held on October 19

BCBSNC Offers $10 Race Registration Discount to Every Customer in North Carolina.

Raleigh, NC, August 28, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Race 13.1 is pleased to announce that Winston-Salem, NC will host the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Race 13.1 Winston-Salem Half Marathon on October 19, 2014. The event will also include 5k and 10k races. Registration is open through the official race website at www.race131.com.

Race 13.1 Winston-Salem is the capstone of the 2014 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Live Fearless Race 13.1 series. Through its Race 13.1 sponsorship, BCBSNC is investing in the health of the communities it serves by offering $10 off the registration fee to every BCBSNC customer for the Race 13.1 Winston-Salem Half Marathon and 5k and 10k races on October 19.

“Working in North Carolina communities to encourage healthy, active lifestyles is important to us, and the Winston-Salem race is another opportunity to lace up our shoes and do just that,” said Eric Quimby, BCBSNC manager of sports and experiential marketing.

The official start time for the half marathon is 7:00 a.m. The 5k and 10k will start at 7:15 a.m. All three races will start and finish at Reynolda Village at 2201 Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem. The USATF certified course will run through part of Reynolda Village, the Wake Forest University campus, past Graylyn Estate and back along the same route to finish at Reynolda Village.

“We are excited about our Winston-Salem race because this is an event that will benefit the City and the local running community,” said John Kane, Founder and CEO, Race 13.1. “As one of the state’s most interesting cities, Winston-Salem provides the perfect backdrop for an event that will attract more visitors from out of town, further the local economy and provide another high-caliber racing experience that’s closer to home for area runners.”

In addition to the support it brings to local economies, Race 13.1 offers a family-friendly atmosphere that also supports charities in the Triad. JDRF and The V Foundation for Cancer Research are the official non-profit partners with Race 13.1 for this event. A portion of the proceeds from the races will go to JDRF to further research on type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to The V Foundation for Cancer Research to support cancer research and related programs.

The event will feature activities and amenities before, during and after the races that cater to the entire family. Some of these include a KidZone with face painting, sign making stations to support a favorite runner and much more; music; sponsor tents and vendors to interact with and visit; and a finish line party to celebrate with the runners.
