California Credit Union-Backed Program Spotlights Top Teachers in Los Angeles County

Sixteen teachers in Los Angeles County received $1,000 each from California Credit Union for being named Teacher of the Year.

Los Angeles, CA, October 07, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Sixteen public school teachers in Los Angeles County were recognized as the best of the best in a special ceremony made possible by California Credit Union and other sponsors.

The Los Angeles County Office of Education announced this year’s 16 winners (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLgTnGBzeTGa_WVUUUgnRNus1pBQqEktD) at a special award banquet. The educators, each deemed a top teacher among the 72,000 individuals who teach in the county, were honored with the titles of County Teacher of the Year (http://www.californiacu.org/lacoetoy).

The 14 women and two men were selected by judging panels based on a variety of criteria, and honored by the Los Angeles County Office of Education (http://www.lacoe.edu/AcademicEvents/TeachersoftheYear.aspx). Each winning teacher received a $1,000 honorarium from California Credit Union.

Now this is the 34th year, the Los Angeles County Office of Education organized the teacher of the year competition, which is the largest in California. The 16 winners now advance to state-level judging, with just five co-winners emerging from all the educators in California later this fall. The winners of the state level contest will advance to the national competition.

"This recognition program is a terrific way to recognize teaching excellence and focus attention on the tremendous work that teachers in Los Angeles County do to educate our children," said Ron McDaniel, CEO of California Credit Union. "It is our honor to support this program and shine a spotlight on teaching excellence."

This is the 11th year that California Credit Union has supported the county-wide Teacher of the Year program, and in that time the credit union has donated some $320,000 to the program. California Credit Union also serves the schools in Los Angeles and the region by providing teacher grants, scholarships, and a credit card program that channels cash back to schools and their support organizations.
