Here Comes the (Doggie) Bride
Proceeds of doggie wedding to benefit Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.
Jensen Beach, FL, January 16, 2008 --(PR.com)-- There will be more barking than clapping at the upcoming wedding of Tiffany Cook & Skipper Medwid, whose coattail will be wagging with joy. You see, Tiffany is an 8-year-old standard poodle and Skipper is a 12-year-old beagle/jack russell mix. On Saturday, January 19, beginning at 2 p.m., in the courtyard at Summerville at Jensen Beach, a retirement and assisted living facility, 1700 NE Indian River Drive, they will take a break from their therapy dog roles and don a wedding dress and tux before some of their closest friends: From chihuahuas, cocker spaniels and labrador retrievers to dobermans, yorkies, poodles and even an Eskimo dog. Actual vows will be exchanged – doggie style – and a champagne reception complete with “people” and “doggie” wedding cakes and hors d’oeuvres will immediately follow.
“Skipper ditched his old wife for a younger one with Tiffany,” said Helen Savill, director of humane education, Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. “The wedding is the second marriage for both. Skippy’s first wedding was a shotgun wedding because his first wife was with litter. Their children will be there.”
Human guests are invited to attend this yuppy, er puppy, event of the year. The bride and groom request that gifts be donations to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.
Both the bride and groom, along with many of the dogs who will be attending, serve as therapy dogs at Summerville, an assisted living facility. They’re also involved in the Humane Society’s Paws to Read program and other humane education programs in schools and healthcare facilities.
Judy Psencik, marketing director of Summerville at Jensen Beach, said, “We are thrilled to sponsor this fundraiser for the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. We are a pet friendly residence and are looking forward to the wedding nuptials.”
Due to the expected paparazzi turnout, security dogs — one a doberman and one a Chihuahua — will be part of the mix. At 15 years old, the grand dame of the bride, a yorkie, is wheelchair bound but is expected to attend.
The event is being produced by and starring Misty’s Pals Pet Therapy Dogs and the Humane Educators of the HSTC.
For those who cannot attend, donations may be sent in the name of Tiffany and Skipper to: 100 SW Leighton Farm Ave., Palm City, Florida 34990. Or use the online form at www.humanesociety-tc.org and click on Give A Gift. For more information, call 772-223-8822.
