Nellie T. Doty Recognized as a Professional of the Year by Strathmore's Who's Who Worldwide Publication

Houston, TX, August 23, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Nellie T. Doty of Houston, Texas has been recognized as a Professional of the Year for 2017 by Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide for her outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of education.

About Nellie T. Doty
Nellie Doty has served the children of Texas for over 30 years. She has worked in music education, special education and music therapy. She retired from the Houston Public Schools and has over 45 years experience as a Music Therapist.

Ms. Doty is currently the Director of Texas Black Music Educators, which is a music education association to preserve, protect and foster the continued development of all music along with the legacy of those who composed, recorded, performed and taught the music. It provides educational and performance opportunities for all persons interested in celebrating musical heritage in Texas. She oversees the daily operations of the Association. She also serves as the Office Manager and is responsible for setting up meetings and the annual banquet.

Serving is important to Mrs. Doty as evidenced by her involvement with the following professional and community organizations: Certification Board for Music Therapy, American Music Therapy Association, (Delegate, Committee Chairperson) Southwestern Music Therapy Association (Past President, Board of Directors and Service Award), Texas Music Education Association, Texas Black Music Educator (Merit Award), Manna House-The Third Ward Food Pantry, (Board Member) and Alzheimer’s Association.

Born on December 7, 1948 in Beaumont, Texas, Ms. Doty obtained a B.S. in Music Therapy from Texas Women’s University in 1971. Her life is happiest when involved in music, teaching children to enjoy and appreciate the many facets of this art form and doting on her grandbabies. Mrs. Doty and John, her husband of over forty years, reside in Houston. They have two sons, Paul (Jacquelyn) and James (Candance), and three grandchildren, Madyson, Myles and Jadon. In her spare time she enjoys reading, crafting, crocheting, and family activities.
