Biography
A veteran of the US Marine Corps with over ten years experience working her way up the corporate ladder, Elaine Haygood began her training as a visual artist at age 7. She began writing at age 13, at that time producing and directing her first stage play. At 16 she began her musical education playing tenor drum in her high school's ROTC Drum and Bugle Corps, and then, when transferring schools, took on the alto, tenor and baritone saxophones and string bass in that school's classical band and orchestra.
During much of her twenties, Ms. Haygood volunteered for several non-profit organizations in Chigao and Northern California as a Special Events Coordinator, handling everything from project conception to public relations. one of Ms. Haygood's most successful events was a "Crittendon Friends Night" event during "TheatreWorks' 1988 production of "Peter Pan". this event not only taised money for the organization as well as increased it's community awareness, but was also instrumental in the organization being incorporated into the Red Cross of Plao Alto's Community Services Program.
At 30 years old, with no previous college experience, Ms. Haygood was accepted into The American Film institute's Center for Advanced Film And Television Studies (CAFTS, Screenwriting "91"). Along with her classes in screenwriting, Ms. Haygood attended general classes in Editing, Production Design, Cinematography and Film Production. Serving as a Sound Technician (Boom Operator) and Production Assistant on several student productions as part of her graduation requirement.
Following her graduation in 1992, Ms. Haygood spent a year working on a script project for producer Alex Rose ("Norma Rae", "Quigly Down Under", "Frankie And Johnny") and has spent the past ten years further educating herself in film direction, production and business management.
Ms. Haygood currently lives on Chicago's South Side with her two teenaged sons Charles (17), and Jonathan (14) and is working to improve their future by building Lens Cap into what she hopes will someday be a major force in the entertainment industry.
