Biography
Mr. Smith is Vice President of Radio Engineering, a position he has held for the past 19 years. For the preceding 11 years he held a similar position with First Media Corporation, another large radio group owner. Prior to that, he spent several years with Tribune Broadcasting in New York as Assistant Chief Engineer of their radio and television stations.
In March of 2005, Mr. Smith was chosen to receive the prestigious Radio Engineering Achievement Award from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). The award, first established in1959, is given to individuals for their significant contributions which have advanced the state of the art of broadcast engineering. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEEE), the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), the National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) and the Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers (AFCCE).
As a member of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Mr. Smith is active in the NAB Engineering Conference Committee, the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) technical advisory group, the Spectrum Task Force, and the AM directional antenna ad hoc committee. He is likewise active in the National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC), serving on its DAB test guidelines and evaluation working groups, and is chairman of its DAB subcommittee, which is currently involved in the evaluation of what will be the next generation of digital radio service for the United States.
