Biography
Gary Stockman is a Porter Novelli partner and serves as the company’s president. He has responsibility for the agency’s client relationships and portfolio management, business development and products and service innovations. He also oversees Porter Novelli’s three major industry groups: Technology, Health Care and Consumer.
With more than 20 years of communications experience, Gary serves as a strategic counselor to clients, especially companies focused on establishing new markets and growing product categories. He also has expertise in managing corporate “life cycle” events, including management succession and crises.
Gary joined the agency through Copithorne & Bellows – a leading technology firm and one of Porter Novelli’s predecessor agencies – and spent from 1995 through 2002 working in Silicon Valley. His clients included Hewlett-Packard and QUALCOMM, as well as a host of start-ups in telecommunications, software and gaming. Following the merger of Copithorne & Bellows and Porter Novelli in 2000, Gary held the positions of Porter Novelli western regional director, chief operating officer and chief executive officer, Americas.
Before joining Porter Novelli, Gary spent nine years at Saphar & Associates in Rochester, N.Y., a full-service agency where he served as vice president and director of account management. His clients during that period included Eastman Kodak Company, Rochester Telephone (now part of Frontier) and Akzo Nobel. Gary’s experience at Saphar encompassed fields as diverse as digital imaging, telecommunications, printing and publishing, industrial finishing, solid waste, mining and politics. Gary began his career as a business reporter at the Buffalo News. He holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Rochester.
