Michael L. Buckner is a shareholder with the Michael L. Buckner Law Firm. Mr. Buckner, a licensed attorney (Bar Admission: Florida) and private investigator (State: Florida), advises organizations on compliance, internal investigation, ethics, training, government relations, and management enhancement issues.

Mr. Buckner speaks regularly at national and regional conventions, meetings, seminars, and workshops. He also conducts private and public seminars for managers, administrators, attorneys, and other professionals on ethics, leadership, compliance, efficiency, and investigation issues. Further, Mr. Buckner has written numerous articles and reference materials regarding ethics, productivity, compliance, investigation, and operational efficiency issues in national publications and on industry Web sites. Mr. Buckner is the author of books on internal investigations and ethics. Currently, Mr. Buckner is working on Most Valuable Leader: Leadership Lessons from America’s Athletic Directors.

Mr. Buckner was formerly with Holland & Knight LLP, one of the largest international law firms. While at the firm, Mr. Buckner headed the collegiate sports administration and compliance practice. He also represented clients in education, commercial, product liability, and appellate legal matters. Mr. Buckner is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and all federal and state courts in Florida.

In his community, Mr. Buckner serves as a Broward County Commission-appointed member of the Broward County Charter Review Commission. He is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He also served as an appointed member of the Florida Bar Education Law Committee. From 2000-04, Mr. Buckner served as a governor-appointed commissioner on the non-partisan Volunteer Florida, the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service.

Mr. Buckner earned his bachelor’s degree in international relations and social sciences and communication in 1993 from the University of Southern California. He was awarded a law degree in 1996 from Florida State University, where he was a member of the Moot Court team.

In his personal time, Mr. Buckner enjoys spending time with his wife (Shawn) and two children, as well as cooking, movies, reading, and sports. Mr. Buckner also is an avid runner and regularly travels the country competing in marathons and half-marathons.
