Biography
Janet Balis is an accomplished media executive with extensive experience in cross-platform media. She is a Partner and Chief Revenue Officer for betaworks, a highly innovative studio of startups and investments. She served previously as Publisher of The Huffington Post, leading ad sales and marketing for the innovative, cross-platform global brand. Janet repositioned the brand to advertisers and launched HuffPost Live as well as a break-through technology solution for brand marketers. Janet previously served as SVP, Sales Strategy, Marketing and Partnerships for AOL Advertising, growing relationships with key clients and agencies, leading branded entertainment, and overseeing participation in the 2012 Digital Content Newfronts.
Prior to AOL, Janet was EVP, Media Sales and Marketing for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO), overseeing ad sales across broadcast, digital and print media. At MSLO, Janet led the first-ever cross-platform upfront for the company. Before returning to AOL, Janet led a boutique advisory firm, Digital Media Strategies, working with premier media companies including Discovery, About.com, Turner Broadcasting and Warner Bros. Television. Janet spent over eight years at Time Warner, most recently as the SVP of Sales Development for AOL Media Networks, leading client solutions and trade marketing across brands like AOL, AIM, MapQuest, and branded entertainment series. Prior to AOL, Janet led Sales and Marketing on behalf of the web sites of the magazines of Time Inc.
Janet holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Columbia College. She was named as an Advertising Age 2010 Women to Watch and a Crains Top 40 Under 40 in 2006.
