Barry Canty Awarded Heineken Red Star Filmmaker Award
Multi-hyphenate is the 2008 recipient for his movie “L.A. Proper.”
Hollywood, CA, August 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Los Angeles-based writer/director/actor Barry Canty has been chosen for pushing the boundaries of creativity and providing a unique vision and execution in his debut film “L.A. Proper”, a comedy about a multiethnic group of six hard working and hard partying friends looking for love, sex, meaning, work and a good time during the long days and short nights in Los Angeles.
The Heineken Red Star Award was created in an effort to promote up-and-coming filmmakers by providing additional exposure and visibility for their films. To this end, Heineken has partnered with Daily Variety and the Independent Film Channel (IFC) to bring well-deserved publicity and visibility to the Heineken Red Star Award recipient and their film.
Barry Canty, whose work has been compared to early Woody Allen, Spike Lee and Ed Burns, will be profiled in the pages of Variety. Complementing this print profile, IFC will produce a video vignette showcasing Canty receiving the award at the Writers Guild of America Theater in Beverly Hills that will run for a month on the network.
