Hermosa Beach, CA, August 14, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) today regretfully announced the passing of Jaret Toshiro “JT” Minami, a former HBSC player and star player and scholar at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Jaret Minami was born on January 31, 1983 and passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Torrance Memorial Hospital after suffering from a sudden neurological disorder. JT graduated from West High (Torrance, CA) in 2001. In 2006 he graduated with honors from Cal State Dominguez Hills, with a B.A. in Business and a Marketing emphasis and was the recipient of the 2006 Dr. Hal Charnofsky Male Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. At the time of his passing, JT was working at Lexus in Torrance, CA.
JT played soccer from the age of seven and made his mark on the Cal State Dominguez Hills Men's Soccer Team. During his time at CSUDH, JT made 47 starts in 61 games played and was crowned with 1st-team NSCAA All-Region and 2nd-team All-CCAA honors during his senior season. JT helped lead the Toros to the NCAA Division II West Region Title and the NCAA D-II Quarterfinals.
JT played one year for the Hermosa Beach Soccer Club, helping the Club’s Premier team achieve an impressive record. JT was ultimately lured away to HBSC’s rival, Fram Scandia (Rolling Hills Estates), where JT played alongside Joe Flanagan, his respected Cal State Dominguez Hills coach.
In honor of JT’s memory, HBSC and Fram Scandia will host a memorial soccer game at 11:30 am on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Nansen Field in Rolling Hills Estates. The match will bring together many of JT’s former high school and college teammates to honor a man that was very loved and respected within the South Bay soccer community.
JT is survived by his father, Neil; mother, Barbara; and sister, Lanie. The “Jaret Minami Memorial Scholarship Fund” has been established, and the family is asking that donations be made to this fund in lieu of flowers, which will create an endowment scholarship in Jaret’s honor. Checks should be made payable to CSUDH Foundation with the notation “Jaret Minami Memorial Scholarship,” and can be sent to CSU Dominguez Hills, c/o Office of Development, 1000 East Victoria Street, Carson, CA 90747.
The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) was founded in 2000. Located in Los Angeles’ South Bay, HBSC is home to men’s Premier, Over-30 and Over-40 teams as well as a women’s Premier team.
