Monaco’s Former Royal Luxury Yacht Seeks New Life Cruising High Seas

Fort Lauderdale, FL, May 03, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Fifty years after playing a starring role in what was called “the wedding of the century” – the royal wedding of Prince Rainier of Monaco to American film star Grace Kelly -- the 147-foot former royal yacht of Monaco is seeking a new life on the high seas.
The elegant steel yacht, now known as “Zein” and built by Camper & Nicholsons in Southampton, Great Britain, in 1928, is for sale and is available for showing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“The role she played in the royal history of Monaco in 1956 is impressive,” says John Masters, who captains the yacht for its Cayman Islands owners, “but Zein also served Her Majesty during World War II, and was credited with capturing a German U-boat during one tour of duty as a sub-chaser, and later saving many lives while serving as a hospital ship.”
Known as “Deo Juvante II” during her time with the royal family of Monaco, the vessel was a wedding gift from the late Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis, to Prince Rainier and Princess Grace.
The Prince and the actress were married April 19, 1956, in what became known as “the wedding of the century” – the first televised royal affair, reportedly attracting 30 million viewers worldwide.
The royal newlyweds honeymooned aboard the yacht as it cruised the Mediterranean with stops in Villafranche (Nice), Spain, and Corsica – enjoying some privacy after months in the public spotlight.
Zein has gone through a number of major refits throughout her life, says Masters. In 2002, prior owners invested nearly $700,000 in the yacht, rebuilding engines, strengthening areas of the hull and doing general and cosmetic maintenance throughout.
With a large master stateroom, four double suites and a crew cabin, Zein also is outfitted with a large gourmet galley with walk-in cooler.
Registered in the Cayman Islands and insured for full survey value of $1.4 million USD, the vessel is offered for sale for $535,000 EUR – about $645,000 USD.
