NJ Physicians Band Together for Savings: Group Purchasing Promises Discounts to Doctors

NJ Physicians, an association of New Jersey medical doctors, announces the creation of a group purchasing plan offering savings of five to 15 percent on a wide range of products and services.

Trenton, NJ, August 27, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Squeezed by managed care companies at one end and an economic downturn at the other, New Jersey's doctors are banding together as small business owners to save money on supplies and services.

NJ Physicians, an association of New Jersey medical doctors, today announced the creation of a wide-ranging purchasing alliance which will give doctors discounts on everything from children's vaccines to copy paper.

"New Jersey's physicians are small business owners, and like all small business owners today we are keenly interested in creative cost-saving measures," said Ronald White, MD, president of NJ Physicians.

While group discounts for professional groups are nothing new, the NJ Physicians Buying Alliance was designed to offer a broader range of products and services. This, combined with NJ Physicians' current membership -- 1,100 and growing -- make the initiative potentially one of the largest of its kind in the region.

NJ Physicians Executive Director Jay Hedden said doctors who join the buying alliance can expect savings of anywhere from five to 15 percent.

"Saving money is one benefit, and saving time is another," said Hedden. "Members can now do all of their ordering from a secure Internet portal accessible through www.njphysicians.com, the group's website."

"It's a one-stop online shopping solution for our members," Hedden added. "Physicians today simply do not have the time to look for deals or negotiate contracts for every overhead item. Despite decreasing reimbursements, these costs have continued to increase, and NJ Physicians has worked very hard to identify the companies that our members use most, and negotiate the best possible prices and contract terms on their behalf."

NJ Physicians has contracted with a select list of top companies to provide physicians with discounts on the products and services used most. The list includes the pharmaceutical companies Sanofi, Merck and MedImmune who will offer doctors savings on vaccine products. Another partner, Florida-based Physicians Sales & Service (PSS), is one of the nation's largest distributors of medical supplies.

Other participants include Ikon Office Solutions, a supplier of document management systems and services; Prime Pay, a payroll services company; HSBC Bank; and Staples. There are also discounts offered through some of the top law and insurance firms in New Jersey, ranging from disability insurance to prepaid legal services.

The plan is only available to members of the organization, who must first call to enroll and activate an account.

NJ Physicians is an advocacy organization of physicians across all specialties of medicine. It works closely with business, labor, industry, and other physician and healthcare organizations to improve the quality, accessibility and affordability of healthcare for the citizens of our New Jersey.
