Pets Across America
Lessons About Life Animals Teach Us
Compiled and Edited by Pam Uher
Pets Across America is a collection of smart, witty, and often touching stories by real people about living with those unique creatures we call pets. Americans love pets. There are over 200 million dogs, cats and other small animals living as "family members" in 63% of American homes. These sometimes exasperating, unpredictable, yet remarkable housemates are the subjects of this collection of stories compiled by author Pam Uher.
Sparked by a conversation with friends, Ms. Uher, author of Listen to Me: Whispers in the Dark, put an ad on "Craig's List" requesting submissions for stories about pets. The response was totally unexpected. She was inundated with hundreds of stories. Pets Across America is the result; a compilation of the most heart warming, funny and inspirational of those submissions.
After retiring from a thirty-year career as a minister and counselor of at-risk and abused children, Pam focused her attention on the animals she has loved all her life. In 2003, she opened Gabriel’s Pet Care, located in Rowlett, Texas (a Dallas suburb), this new business venture brought her back into daily contact with animals, their guardians, and the plight of abandoned pets and overcrowded animal rescue shelters. As a result, Pam is donating 30% of the net proceeds of the sale of the book to various animal shelters across America helping to fund their essential and ever-growing efforts.
With the release of the book, Pam is coordinating book signings and pet adopt-a-thon events with the contributing authors and shelter/ rescue organizations across the country. For more information about book signings in your area, please go to www.petsacrossamerica.vpweb.com.
