Morph Labs to provide online version of DB2 Express-C and an associated Web application interface to allow contestants from around the world to easily take part in the competition.

Portland, OR, August 28, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Morph Labs, a leading provider of Platform as a Service (PaaS) for web applications, has been selected to support the global “Search for the XML Superstar” contest sponsored by IBM and the International DB2 User Group (IDUG). Morph Labs will provide an online version of the IBM DB2 Express-C database server and an associated web application interface to allow contestants from around the world to take part in the competition easily.

”Search for the XML Superstar” is part of the International DB2 User Group (IDUG)'s efforts to highlight the benefits of DB2 and related technologies and is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of contestants from countries around the world. Morph Labs and the IBM DB2 team have worked together to create an online application that will allow contestants to access a fully configured and populated DB2 Express-C database in the Morph Labs cloud environment.

Running inside a Morph AppSpace, the application and associated cloud-resident DB2 Express-C database will provide the participating XML developers with an environment in which they can use their XML skills without having to download, install and configure the database first.

“We are delighted to be working with Morph Labs to simplify participation in the Search for the XML Superstar contest,” said Leon Katsnelson, program director for IBM Data Management. “By connecting to DB2 Express-C hosted on reliable Morph Labs cloud computing infrastructure, XML contest participants can explore the power of DB2 pureXML and XQuery from their web browser without a need to install and manage their own DB2 server.”

“The project to set up and run DB2 Express-C within a Morph AppSpace has resulted in a good working relationship with the IBM DB2 team, which we hope to develop further,” said David Abramowski, CEO of Morph Labs. “As cloud computing becomes more mainstream we are looking to add features to our Morph AppSpace service for enterprise customers – including the DB2 database.”

Morph AppSpace is a comprehensive service that combines technology, people and automation to deploy, deliver and manage web-based applications in a hosted environment. Currently supporting Ruby on Rails, Java and Grails applications, Morph AppSpace is the broadest and most open Platform as a Service in the marketplace today.
