Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, August 31, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Dawna Lee Heising, "Eye on Entertainment" executive producer and hostess, announced that the show’s latest segment contains an interview with Portia Spurney, an internationally known artist and custom jewelry designer, who also teaches jewelry design and craftsmanship from her studio in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Portia grew up in Wooster, Ohio, and showed a natural inclination toward drawing from an early age. Her work in all media won many prizes at the Wayne County and Ohio State Fairs. This early background, along with private art lessons, led to her use of art in window display, interior design, landscape and costume designs, as well as curatorial and museum display in decorative arts.
Portia attended the Art Institute of Chicago and Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. She received a B.A. in Fine Arts and graduated Cum Laude from the College of Wooster, where she won the Netta Sterian Scott Award for Fine Arts.
She has been a teacher for 50 years of all ages and all levels, and was a consultant in 1994 for the Los Angeles Museum of Art. She accepts commissions in all media, as well as jewelry design and repair. She has been featured in many articles worldwide for her painting and jewelry designs, including a 1986 article in the Los Angeles Times. She has also received the Beading International Award for her jewelry.
Dawna became acquainted with Portia through her good friend, Beth Moran, who is one of Portia’s jewelry-making students. Beth is a long-time schoolteacher, and is married to Rich Moran, who is included in the Worth Magazine Top 100 Certified Financial Planners in America listing. Rich Moran is a partner with Paul Heising, Dawna’s husband, and Alex Kimura, a Harvard graduate, in Moran, Kimura & Heising in Torrance, California. Beth has designed and crafted Dawna’s jewelry for “Eye on Entertainment” since 2007.
