Women Runners for Open Borders
London, United Kingdom, September 05, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Carrying the message, unfettered freedom of movement for all and open borders, a team of passionate women are running on behalf of the feisty charity WORLDwrite on the Adidas Women's 5K challenge in Hyde Park in London on 7th September and are sure to stand out from the crowd. Too many people? Too many immigrants? A strain on our national resources? With The More the Merrier - Open the borders as the slogan on their t-shirts, these women think not.
As runner Saleha Ali, said today: "Attitudes to immigration may have been "de-racialised" and we don't get called rude names to the same extent, yet there is now more closure than ever before and it is commonplace to talk about immigrants as "illegals" and to be told to "go back home". More people and especially new arrivals are viewed as a threat to the planet and a strain on our resources; this is nonsense and has to be challenged."
The WORLDwrite runners are promoting the message of the charity's recently released film.
The More the Merrier which depicts immigration as an inspiring example of our capacity to take charge of our own destiny and environment. They hope to raise funds to make copies of the film to send to schools and colleges everywhere.
The Adidas Women's 5K Challenge take place in Hyde Park in London on Sunday 7th September. The WORLDwrite women's team will be celebrating in the park after they have crossed the finish line and welcome the public to join them for a toast to open borders. The team and their message can be supported by visiting an online sponsorship page here http://www.justgiving.com/themorethemerrier
An interview with some of the runners also forms a key feature on the first WORLDbytes programme. WORLDbytes is a monthly on-line news programme WORLDwrite is launching this week. The programme aims to get behind the headlines and promote a people-first perspective on a wide-range of issues; the programme's credo is "don't shout at the telly, change the message on it". The first programme also features a report on poverty in London, a satirical Alien report on "humanoid activities", a Panic Room and youthful views on recent headlines. The WORLDbytes online channel is available at www.worldbytes.org and exclusive viewing of the programme for press only is available at www.worldbytes.org/pressroom.
This video interview was filmed in their charity’s new volunteer film studio in Hackney.
