Venice Volleyball Begin 2008 Season with Two Victories Beating Lakewood Ranch and Bayshore High Schools in Straight Sets
The Venice Indian Volleyball team win their first games of the season beating Lakewood Ranch and Bayshore High School. The Young Lady Indians Volleyball team led by juniors Dorothy Rahal and Taylor Capasso and sophomore Autumn Duyn have propelled Venice High School Volleyball to a 2-0 start.
Venice, FL, September 07, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Venice Volleyball team, a young team with only sophomores and juniors, has begun the 2008 season with 2 victories against division rivals Lakewood Ranch and Bayshore High Schools.
Winning in straight sets in both games: 25-11, 25-20, 25-10 against Lakewood Ranch High School and 25-6, 25-12, 25-5 against Bayshore High School, Venice has shown a toughness for such a young team.
Tough Serving has been the Venice Volleyball’s strength early this 2008 season. "That is your best defense," said Coach Brian Wheatley about the serve. "We stress that all the time and we beat a lot of teams just by that there. We have a lot of jump servers and in the offseason we were working on getting the ball high and taking a rip at it."
"I know the opposition teams passing has looked bad, but our serving is one of our assets. We are an aggressive-serving team and any time you can bring the other team out of their system, they can't run their plays," Wheatley said.
Junior Taylor Capasso has been quick in passing to outside hitters Autumn Duyn, Dorothy Rahal and Jillian Allen. "Taylor is quick as a cat," said Venice coach Brian Wheatley. "Don't tell her she is only 5-feet-5, because she thinks she is 6-feet. "
In winning their first 2 divisional games of the season last week Venice Volleyball will now be traveling this week to divisional rival North Port High School on Tuesday Sept 9, Thursday Sept 11 Venice will be at Tampa Prep, and in Gainesville this weekend for the Gatortown Classic.
Venice will be at home again on September 16 playing against Manatee High School at 7PM.
Venice Volleyball is 355-87 in Wheatley's 15 seasons with Florida State Titles in 1998 and 2005 and District Champions the past 6 years. For more information visit www.VeniceIndianVolleyball.com.
