Forgan of St. Andrews Lead on Second Day at Casa Serena Open
Forgan’s Ian Woosnam will be looking to secure his third victory on the European Seniors Tour at the Casa Serena Open this Sunday, in what is expected to be a fantastic final round battle against Bernhard Langer and Peter Mitchell.
Birmingham, United Kingdom, September 08, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The second day didn’t start-off as the Order of Merit leader had hoped, dropping a shot on the fourth and posting a bogey on the sixth; after regaining his address position, Woosie stormed back with a string of four consecutive birdies from the ninth and another at the 14th - dropping his only shot of the second round at the 17th, to finish off his second day with another birdie at the 18th.
Ian Woosnam commented, “…I got my address position a bit better and started playing better. But for that shot on the 17th hole I played pretty well for 10 holes.”
Whilst all attention will be drawn to the two previous Ryder Cup captains on Sunday, England’s Peter Mitchell who is currently tied at the top of the leader-board alongside Woosnam and Langer has already caused a stir this season after beating Woosie to the trophy at the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open.
“I’m going to have to up my game tomorrow. Although I had a good score yesterday I got away with it today. It’s an exciting day for the Order of Merit tomorrow. It could make a big difference and it’s great for the tournament.” Ian Woosnam.
Gordon J Brand who is looking for a hat-trick at the Casa Serena Open – after securing victories at Slaley Hall and Woburn - is currently tied in fourth position alongside America’s Bob Boyd and Scotland’s Ross Drummond.
Forgan’s ‘DJ’ Russell closed on 3-over par 74 to finish tied in 68th position.
