Ian Woosnam and Forgan of St. Andrews Finish Second at the Casa Serena Open
Ian Woosnam finishes the Casa Serena Open in second place with Forgan of St. Andrews – leaving him clinging on to the top-spot of the Order of Merit after Bernard Langer decreased the gap between both players - winning the Casa Serena Open on 12-under par 201.
Birmingham, United Kingdom, September 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The first day at the Casa Serena Open saw Woosie lead the field after posting 6-under par, dropping his only shot of the day at the 10th. Gordon J Brand and Spain’s, Juan Quiros were looking for victories in Eastern Europe, but neither posed any real threat in the opening round to the former winning Ryder Cup captain. The second day saw him drop shots at the 4th and 17th holes, with a double bogey at the 6th. After regrouping, Woosie posted four consecutive birdies from the ninth and another at the 14th.
Seeking his third victory of his debut season, Woosnam opened the final day in style with a birdie -then proceeded to drop a shot at the 3rd and 11th holes. The back nine saw him recover the two shots lost in the opening round with birdies at the 14th and 18th holes. Woosie finished the final day on 1-under par 70, leaving him 9-under 204 at the end in the Czech Republic for a second place finish beneath Order of Merit contender Langer.
