iUniverse Would Like to Announce the Release of Kings of the Jews by Norman Gelb

Bloomington, IN, September 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Kings of the Jews delves deep into Jewish nation history.

Acclaimed author Norman Gelb explores the origins of the Jewish nation by telling the interesting history of each of its Kings and Queens.

After writing such highly acclaimed books such as Ike and Monty, Less Than Glory and The Berlin Wall, author Norman Gelb writes about the evolution of the Jewish nation during ancient times in Kings of the Jews.

It’s the story of the men and women who ruled the Jewish nation, the forerunner of the modern state of Israel, as it took shape during a time in the Middle East that was even more turbulent than it is today.

A succession of more than 50 men and women from Saul and David to Herod the Great and Agrippa II wore the crown of the Jewish people as the nation came into being and established itself more than 2,000 years ago. King David and King Solomon were of great historical significance and are the key figures that spring to mind when people are asked who were the Kings of the Jews. However, many of the lesser known rulers of the Jewish nation played important roles as well. Kings Rehoboam and Jeroboam were the founding rulers of the two kingdoms -- Israel and Judah -- in which the Jewish nation split into two.

Among the reforms instituted under Alexandra Salome, Queen of Judaea, was an unprecedented measure to protect divorced or widowed women from impoverishment -- the origin of present day alimony. The Arab-Jew Herod the Great may have sometimes teetered on the edge of homicidal lunacy but he was also a master builder of cities and a generous philanthropist who rescued the ancient Olympic Games from collapse.

In Kings of the Jews, Gelb also sketches the major traumatic experiences of the ancient Jewish nation including the fate of the Lost Tribes of Israel, the Babylonian Exile, the Maccabee uprising and the war with the Roman Empire.
