Sweet William Cottage Held Successful “Pull the Rug Out From Under Us” Sale
Chittenden County shoppers found great buys at Shelburne store’s sale last weekend.
Shelburne, VT, September 20, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Vermont bargain-hunters responded to the amazing prices at cottage-style home furnishings store Sweet William Cottage in Shelburne over the weekend, and carried off colorful benches and dressers, antique chairs and mirrors, and the ever-popular Ghana baskets. Which is exactly what owners Carol Wellings and Connie Hoffmann had in mind when they announced their “Help Pull the Rug Out From Under Us Sale” last week in a clever mailing to their preferred customers.
Carol and Connie had a purely self-serving motive for the sale – to keep from injuring their backs moving all of the heavy furniture in the store out and back in the two days that new carpeting was to be installed in the store. “We move furniture constantly in order to keep our merchandise fresh and our displays inviting, but the idea of moving it all in two days was just too daunting” said Carol Wellings, who manages the store daily. “So we decided to give our best customers the opportunity to buy those pieces they’d been dreaming about at wonderful prices.”
The pair sent out a postcard to their preferred customers with a cartoon drawing of them struggling as they lifted a heavy upholstered chair and the response was terrific. As the week came to a close, they advertised the sale to the general public in Charlotte and Shelburne.
The carpet installation is completed and the store has reopened with some exciting new merchandise.
