Dale Rogers Training Center Supports National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)
Oklahoma City, OK, September 25, 2008 --(PR.com)-- America’s People, America’s Talent, America’s Strength. The Dale Rogers Training Center is joining Congress, the national AbilityOne program, and the State of Oklahoma in the observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October. The Dale Rogers Training Center provides employment opportunities to people with physical and/or mental disabilities who may otherwise have difficulty finding work. By providing vocational training, assessment and placement services, in-house work opportunities, on-the-job training and support along the way, Dale Rogers Training Center clears a path for adults with disabilities. Individuals who are willing and able to work receive so many benefits from doing so - including financial autonomy, pride and self-confidence - and thereby give back to the community through productivity, spending and taxes, and self-sufficiency. Individuals with disabilities in Dale Rogers programs earned over $4.3 million dollars last year. The Dale Rogers Training Center partners with AbilityOne in its federal campaign through contracts, employing DRTC individuals at Tinker Air Force Base, Altus Air Force Base, the new Federal building, and the Federal Courthouse.
The Dale Rogers Training Center began in 1953, and currently trains or employs over 900 teens and adults with various disabilities, such as hearing impairment, autism, and cognitive disabilities. DRTC has 400 individuals working in jobs in the community, and provides production and contract work on campus for over 60 companies.
Congress designated each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The Office of Disability Employment Policy has the lead in planning NDEAM activities and materials to increase the public's awareness of the contributions and skills of American workers with disabilities. Various programs carried out throughout the month also highlight the specific employment barriers that still need to be addressed and removed. This year’s theme is, “America’s People, America’s Talent, America’s Strength.”
