iUniverse Would Like to Announce the Release of Teeter-Totter by Ruby A. Sampson

Bloomington, IN, September 25, 2008 --(PR.com)-- New Novel Describes Young Girl’s Experience with Abuse, Years of Travel with Father.

In Ruby A. Sampson’s new novel, Teeter-Totter: Lee Ann’s Diary, she describes one young girl’s experiences with sexual abuse, constant vagabonding and her path back to the safety of home.

When Lee Ann Black is just 10 years old, her father takes her from her family and begins a five-year journey of touring the country in an old, green bus. For Lee Ann, the trips through various states mean she is more alone than ever – away from her mother, siblings and home. She works alongside her father in the cotton fields of Texas and the orchards of Washington state, all while enduring a life on the road that is dirty and exhausting during the day and filled with life-altering, horrifying sexual abuse at night in the back of a cold, dilapidated bus.

Her father, Joe Black, is not only a deviant, but holds strict views on women that Lee Ann is forced to adhere to. School is out of the question; women belong in the home. Lee Ann, who is going through her most formative years as a young woman, is not allowed to cut her hair, does not make friends and cannot tell anyone of the abuse. Infrequent visits home make her travels with her father that much more unbearable. Joe’s deadly threats to her if she tells the secret would mean violence against the family she missed and cared for so much.

Despite the struggles of her early teen years, Lee Ann develops into a poised young woman. She experiences some miraculous events and her first love interest, but finally hits rock bottom. It is only then that sun begins to shine though the clouds, and Lee Ann Black is able to return to the life she had been robbed of for so long.

A heart-wrenching story of a strong, young girl’s undeserved hardship and her endurance through it, Teeter-Totter: Lee Ann’s Diary will grasp the emotions of readers.
