Borders Books UK Celebrates Magazine Week 2008 by Encouraging Magazine Lovers to Try a New Magazine
London, United Kingdom, September 28, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Winner of the prestigious Magazine Destination Retailer of the Year Award in 2007, Borders UK is this year delighted to be supporting Magazine Week 2008 which takes place between 29th September and 5th October. Leading retailer Borders, which offers the UK’s widest range of magazines in the marketplace, is celebrating with a ground-breaking initiative by becoming the first UK retailer in history to offer a category-wide discounted promotion for magazines. Next week Borders will be launching a ‘Buy One Get One Half Price’ offer across all magazines, in all its stores.
And that’s not all Borders has planned. It is also organising an ambitious, week-long, schedule of events. With over 250 events already confirmed, the programme is wide and varied, promising something for everyone. Highlights include:
Live stand-up comedy from Mustard magazine, featuring Phil Kaye at Borders Brighton
Complimentary Hair and Make-up advice at Borders Birmingham
A guitar workshop wit Jonny Scaramanga at Borders Charing Cross Road
Meet the best wave surfers in the country and sit on a jet ski at Borders Bournemouth
Come face to face with a real crocodile at Borders Islington
Condé Nast present Alain de Botton ‘in conversation’ at Borders Charing Cross Road
Win a signed England Rugby shirt courtesy of Rugby World magazine at Borders Kingston
Along with the National Quizzes and themed Children’s Storytimes that every Borders store will be hosting, specific stores will have in-store activities including Q&As with magazine editors, live music performances, with goody packs to boot. To check out what your local Borders store has on offer go to www.borderslocal.co.uk. As every store will have Magazine Week activities, it promises to be a fun-filled week for all.
Magazine Week is the publishing industry’s campaign to increase consumer awareness of the diversity of the UK magazine industry and boost sales, through PR and retail activity. The theme for this year’s event is ‘indulge your passion – try a magazine’.
Max Lister, Senior Magazine Buyer for Borders UK, said: “Magazine Week is a unique opportunity to excite and educate the public about the vast range of titles available. We have literally hundreds of events lined up which we hope will create in-store theatre on a scale that the industry has simply never seen before. Borders recognizes the importance of magazines for its customers, and by combining an unbeatable price offer, with a week-long programme of events across the UK, we hope to share our love of magazines with an even wider audience.”
Nicola Rowe, PPA director of circulation, said: “The promotion is a genuine first for the magazine business and it captures what Magazine Week is all about. The BOGOHP mechanic will drive customers to trial the new magazines outside their normal repertoire: to prompt them to be more adventurous and experimental in dipping into the wider world of magazines. The in-store events underline what makes magazines unique among other media: their interactivity and their ability to speak to consumers about what really matters to them, whatever their interests might be – there is a magazine for everyone and anyone!”
