Woman of Freedom Foundation (WFF) Annual Kick Off to Domestic Violence Awareness Month Run for Freedom - 5k Run/Walk
Washington, DC, September 30, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Every 15 seconds a woman is battered in the United States by her husband, boyfriend or live-in partner. The Maryland Network against domestic violence has found that in the United States 4 women die each day as a result of domestic violence.
The need to increase Domestic Violence Awareness is the purpose for this 5k Run/Walk hosted by Women of Freedom Foundation on October 4, 2008. There are still many who are not aware of the dangers and affects of domestic violence. Hence, this event is a catalyst in our relentless effort to continue to bring increased public awareness to this social ill. The proceeds from this event will support Freedom House.
Women of Freedom Foundation (WFF) is a grass roots faith-based, 501c(3) nonprofit organization providing support groups, seminars, workshops, and counseling on issues that are significant to the needs and well being of women and their families. WFF facilitates monthly meetings to discuss and address issues such as domestic violence, divorce, depression, addictions, and stresses in the workplace and family relationships. WFF provides women in transition with a place of refuge where they can heal, support one another and openly discuss personal challenges that are inhibiting them from living a safe and fulfilling life.
Women of Freedom Foundation was founded in August of 2000 by Rayshel Murphy, who is a survivor of domestic violence and for the past 8 years has committed her life, time and experiences to helping other women. Which include women with addictions, HIV-positive women, and survivors of domestic violence as well as the homeless population.
Murphy launched the opening of Freedom House in 2005 to help with the shortage of temporary housing for women of abuse in Washington, D.C. Freedom house is a residential facility that provides short term housing for women who have been victimized by abuse.
