Plano Sugar Artist Takes the Cake – from Beginner to Professional

Plano, TX, October 02, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Kandy Wu, owner of Kandy Sweet Kreations in Plano, TX, took home 1st Place in the Confections and Seasons category as well as Best of Division, and Best of Show along with $1350 in cash and $500 in prizes at the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show at the Tulsa State Fair.

Ms. Wu has won first place the past 4 years in four different divisions at OSSAS and to her credit has won “Best of Show” in the non-professional division in 2005 and currently won “Best of Show” in the professional division this year.

Best of Show is decided by judges who consider all 1st place cake winners in all categories of professional entries to designate one winner as Best of Show.

Ms. Wu entry called “Chinese Wedding Symbols” in the Confections category won “Best of Show” This entry displays her creative ability of utilizing food items in a most unique way. This sugar creation is a display of a phoenix and dragon made of fortune cookies. In Chinese wedding tradition, men are often represented as a dragon while the phoenix corresponds to the woman.

Ms. Wu other 1st place entry “Insect Summer Jamboree” is a whimsical cake about insects having a party On this cake you will find an insect band (spider, preying mantis, caterpillar, and cricket) all playing instruments with a lead singing butterfly, ants going down a water slide, and a roach barbequing to name a few.

The Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show is the biggest cake decorating show in the country. Close to 700 cakes made from professional to amateur cake decorators from all over the country convene at the Tulsa State Fair yearly. This show has been televised by Food Network. It all began when cake decorator, author and Food Network judge Kerry Vincent, who lives in Tulsa, decided to create a venue for the world's best sugar artists to compete.
