Canadian Readers and the Very English Pensioner, Anthony James Barnett
Astonishing as it may seem, Canadian readers have taken English pensioner on board, sending him into the best selling list.
Regina, Canada, November 09, 2008 --(PR.com)-- At an age when most people think of retiring, Anthony James Barnett embarked on a new career. Now it seems Canada is having a minor love affair with this English pensioner living in Spain.
Anthony, grandfather of eight, is still scratching his head over what is happening to his work. His début novel ‘Without Reproach’ has reached number 25 on the best selling list, of Amazon.ca Contemporary Romance (9th Oct 2008). A few weeks ago, it went to number 50, which he found amazing, but now it’s sitting at 25, and he says “I'm over the moon”.
Anthony, perhaps better known for short stories in international competitions, magazines, summer-specials and radio, said in a recent interview, “Without Reproach, was written as a psychological mystery but the media hi-jacked it and classed it as a ‘steamy novel’, so what do I know. ‘Steamy novel’ it is. Canada, I love you.”
The first publisher his novel was submitted to, accepted it last year. It reached the markets just three days before Christmas 2007, too late for the Christmas rush. Maybe this year will be different.
He claims he has no relatives in Canada and the only connection he can think of is a couple of Facebook friends. However, even if all of them purchased, they hardly constitute driving his novel to number 25.
Canada it seems, likes his style.
