Bama Bus Begins 31-Day Art and Political Engagement Tour Through Battleground States: First Stop in Nevada, Oct. 4/ Last Stop Florida, Nov. 4
San Francisco, CA, October 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Filmmaker Annie Woods and celebrated street artist Gadi are embarking on an expedition across America to rally young voters and raise political awareness through community art. This ambitious venture is a follow-up to the original Obama Mobile’s August voyage to the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
Inspired by the movement for change, Woods and Gadi are driving a custom-painted 1985 Volkswagen bus through every battleground state during the final 31 days of the election; throughout their trip they’ll hold events at festivals, college campuses, community centers, and nursing centers. At each stop, they plan to introduce voters to stencil america!, a program encouraging people to create customized clothing and collaborative murals using spray paint and vibrant political stencils.
“Annie and I were tired of all the negative ads out there,” says Gadi. “We wanted to inspire young people to vote in key battleground states through positive and creative engagement.”
The Bama Bus began as voter-engagement projects on separate coasts fusing art and politics. In San Francisco, sisters Annie and Samantha Woods detailed their 1990 Volvo station wagon with 520 Obama ‘08 stickers and drove their original Obama Mobile to Denver for the Democratic National Convention. In New York’s Central Park, Gadi worked to engage hundreds of fellow citizens through stencil america!, helping them design and create their own dynamic stencil shirts. Along the way to Denver, the sisters met Gadi and used stencil america! parties to connect with voters and pay for gas.

The Smithsonian has requested original art and stencils from the Bama Bus for the National Museum of American History. Woods and Gadi will produce and release webisodes from the road while compiling footage for a forthcoming documentary.
