Tulsa Artist Jerry Ricketson to Exhibit at Gallery KH in Chicago
Color & The American Landscape Opens Friday, October 17, 2008.
Chicago, IL, October 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Gallery KH is proud to showcase Color and the American Landscape, the latest exhibition by gallery artist Jerry Ricketson. The exhibition runs from October 17 to November 17 with an opening cocktail reception scheduled on Friday, October 17, 5-8PM.
After obtaining an engineering degree, Tulsa, Oklahoma artist Jerry Ricketson could never shake the feeling that his life’s work was to be an artist. It was those feelings that lead Ricketson to enroll in art classes in the mid 1980s and gradually progressed into a full time career as an artist. While continuing his studies in Tulsa, he enrolled in workshops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Taos, New Mexico, studying with such notable artists as Paul Strisik and David Leffel. He also applied for and was accepted into Richard Schmid's Master's Workshop.
With his love of the outdoors, landscapes have presented to be a preferred subject for Ricktetson. He continually tries not selecting the subject, but rather let it present itself. The combined elements of outdoor painting such as the light, environment and weather often team up to create a stunning effect that seizes Ricketson’s attention, almost demanding to be painted and captured on canvas with his loose but deliberate brushstrokes.
"My work can be taken at face-value. I don't try to tell a story with my paintings, nor do I use any type of symbolism. I don't like the viewer to have to play mind-games trying to understand my work, though viewers have to participate in my paintings. Their mind provides the three-dimensional quality to the work if I've done my job correctly." –Jerry Ricketson
