Silver LEED Certification for Denver Justice Center Parking Garage

Structure also an Award of Merit winner.

Denver, CO, October 16, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Carl Walker, Inc. is proud to announce that the Denver Justice Center Parking Garage, on which the company served as Parking Consultant, has been awarded a LEED Silver Certification.

The U.S. Green Building Council has established a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system for new and existing buildings. The 69-point system evaluates criteria such as water and energy consumption, landscaping, the recycling of construction material and the air quality inside the building. Scores translate into Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum ratings.

The 637-space, above grade, cast-in-place, post tensioned structure incorporates the main U.S. Post Office in the Denver Civic Center in addition to retail space at grade level. Environmental features include daylight sensors on the lighting system, water-conserving fixtures, high fly-ash content in the concrete and high-efficiency mechanical systems.

Prior to being awarded the LEED Certification, in April 2008 the Denver Justice Center Parking Garage was presented with an Award of Merit in the “Parking Structures” category from the American Concrete Institute, Rocky Mountain Chapter.

The project team included: Carl Walker, Inc. (Parking Consultant), AR7 Architects PC (Architects), S.A Miro (Structural Engineer) and Haselden Construction (Contractor). The structure is jointly owned by the City and County of Denver, CO and the U.S. Postal Service.
