Wex Rex Presents Marx Toys & Rare Playsets in Oct. 25 PRWAuctions.com Toy Auction
Oceanside, NY, October 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Wex Rex Collectibles presents items in the Oct. 25th auction featuring mint in box Ben Hur and Wagon Train Playsets, a mint boxed "Wanted: Dead or Alive" Target Set, 1930s windup Motorcycle with Sidecar and many more Marx Toys.
Marx was one of the most important toy companies of the 20th century and produced millions of toys that were enjoyed by generations of kids. Marx created tin windup, vehicles, trains, guns and playsets. This auction will feature all of these types of playthings including two of the rarest playsets, Ben Hur and Wagon Train, along with an extremely rare Wanted Dead or Alive Steve McQueen TV show Target set, all mint in original boxes.
A Marx playset contains plastic figures of people, animals, and scenery such as trees, plus buildings sometimes made out of tin, and even may include some vehicles. The Ben-Hur playset includes a Roman style racetrack, Roman figures, a set of chariots, stalls and Ben-Hur himself. The Wagon Train comes with plastic figures of the stars of the TV show, Flint McCullouch and Major Seth Adams, along with wagons, cowboys, Indians, cacti and other accoutrements of a wild-west expedition. These examples being auctioned are still mint, unused in their original box with all of the playthings still in their original paper bags.
The TV westerns were huge in the 1950s and Steve McQueen had yet to become a movie star, but when “Wanted:Dead or Alive” was on TV, Steve’s character Josh Randall made an impact on the viewers Carrying his very special cut-off rifle called the “Mare’s Laig,” every kid wanted to play cowboy. This mint in box target set contains the metal target and dart gun.
