ORR Technology Announces Mobile WiMAX Device Guide
First comprehensive resource of mobile broadband products now available details nearly 200 announced or commercially available devices.
Portland, OR, October 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- ORR Technology, LLC (orrtechnology.com), a leader in mobile broadband consulting and market intelligence, today announced availability of its Mobile WiMAX Device Guide. The guide is the definitive source for announced and commercially available mobile WiMAX devices. Mobile WiMAX refers to products that conform to the IEEE 802.16e-2005 technical standard for mobile broadband access.
The Mobile WiMAX Device Guide is the first to provide network operators and ecosystem vendors with a comprehensive view of product announcements and specifications for mobile WiMAX devices. Developed through extensive industry experience, the Mobile WiMAX Device Guide includes the breadth of information to accurately portray the evolution of mobile broadband equipment.
"As mobile WiMAX networks roll-out in all regions of the world, the next logical question is to under device availability," says Jeff Orr, founder and principal consultant at ORR Technology and author of the book. "A lot more exciting devices are in development than expected. Personal navigation devices, rear seat vehicle entertainment systems and ultra mobile personal computers connected by WiMAX are a reality today."
Over 185 mobile WiMAX devices have been announced or are commercially available from more than 55 manufacturers. The 260-page guide details each product’s features and specifications across six consumer electronics categories: Computers and peripherals, Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), Phones and PDAs, Vehicle technologies, Portable audio and video, and Gaming.
Computer peripherals and CPE modems represent 84.4 percent of mobile WiMAX device announcements. It’s no surprise that the early majority of products are designed to add mobile WiMAX on existing computers or provide stand-alone modems for high-speed home and office broadband. The upgrade market for notebook computers is a significant WiMAX opportunity. Phones and PDAs are the next largest category with nearly 10 percent of mobile WiMAX device announcements. The highly anticipated debut of battery-powered, handheld devices including Nokia’s N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition and mobile internet terminals (MITs) will shift the consumption of content normally reserved for home or office broadband usage to occur anywhere and anytime.
"People on-the-go who need high-speed Internet without camping in a coffee shop or airport lounge appreciate the simplicity of a WiMAX aircard or USB dongle," continued Orr. "Similarly, corporate offices are evaluating WiMAX for competitively priced wide area networking (WAN) access that extends IT network capabilities to remote offices and the mobile workforce. A self-installable WiMAX desktop modem or gateway creates instant network coverage."
The Mobile WiMAX Device Guide is immediately available as an electronic book. It may be purchased from the ORR Technology website.
