SpamSift: Free Service Helps Consumers Take a Bite out of Spam

SpamSift.Com looks to provide residential consumers with a free and uncomplicated solution for combating the growing spam epidemic.

Kenosha, WI, May 25, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Kenosha Information Technology, Inc. announced last month the launch of SpamSift.Com, a service that provides a free and easy-to-use spam filtering solution. The free service targets customers who receive a modest amount of e-mail each month but find themselves inundated with spam and other types of unwanted mail. For users who receive large volumes of mail or who need more sophisticated control over how their e-mail is filtered, SpamSift also offers a low-cost subscription service.

"One of the things we have learned over the last few years is that the typical consumer is simply not armed with the knowledge or tools needed to effectively combat spam," says Mark Bennett, president and CEO of Kenosha Information Technology. "Unfortunately, that group of people represents a population of about six-hundred million individuals that are prime targets for spammers."

SpamSift starts by asking users for the minimum amount of information needed to authenticate them to their Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) mail server. In most cases, users need know nothing more than their e-mail address and the password they use to download and read their e-mail. SpamSift uses that information to determine the proper host settings and configuration information needed to access the user’s mailbox and automatically established a filtering schedule. Users do not need to install any software nor do they need to reconfigure their e-mail software (e.g., Microsoft Outlook Express).

Once the user’s mailbox settings have been established, SpamSift's free service will automatically start scanning a customer’s e-mail once every hour for a total of 150 messages a month. Users with a paid subscription can instruct SpamSift to scan their e-mail every 5 minutes with no monthly message limitations. Messages identified as spam are removed, packaged up in a detailed spam report, and then redelivered to the user’s mailbox with the special “{SPAM}” tag in the subject. Users can optionally chose to have identified spam deleted or configure their mail software to place these messages in a personal junk-mail folder for later review.

"There are quite a number of anti-spam solutions on the market these days – many of them can be quite effective when used properly. However, most fail to significantly reduce the overall volume of spam because they require the users to purchase and install software on their computers or they force them to navigate through a myriad of complex configurations choices," continues Mark. "We think SpamSift is the answer."
