The nightly two hour radio program features interviews with America’s leading experts on addiction and recovery, as well as recovering celebrities, treatment professionals, authors and prominent news makers in the first hour.
The second hour of each program features everyday people in recovery from addiction, sharing their individual path to recovery, offering experience, strength and hope for others. "Everyone in recovery has a positive story that people can relate to," says Neil Scott, the program's host. "By talking about what it was like, what happened and what it’s like now, the program speaks directly to those who are in need of help, as well as to family members and friends who need to know that there is help and hope for those suffering from this misunderstood disease."
The two hour nightly radio show is produced and hosted by Neil Scott, a national addiction and media consultant and veteran media talent, who also does special assignment work, covering Seattle sports teams for the Fox Sports Radio Network, ESPN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio. He is also an update anchor on Sports Radio 950 KJR in Seattle.
"Radio is a powerful way to carry the message of hope and the promise of recovery in an informative, entertaining, interactive manner," said Scott, who has worked for the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) and other national, state and local organizations. "Addiction affects 22 million people in this country, and each one of them adversely affects four to six others, including family and friends."
RECOVERY - Coast to Coast is a resource for people seeking recovery, as well as those looking to enhance their own recovery. Scott stresses the positive, "The bright side of addiction is recovery, and recovery is an American way of life. Addiction is a treatable disease from which people can and do successfully recover. Those suffering from addiction are not bad people trying to be good, they are sick people who are trying to get well. There is no such thing as a hopeless addict."
The two hour nightly program is produced by The Alliance for Recovery, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide awareness, education and information about addiction and recovery. "Our biggest challenge," says Scott "is raising money to stay on the air. Alcoholism and addiction are among the hardest diseases to raise money for, because of the pervasive negative stigma. The radio show accepts donations and carries commercial advertising, as well.
