Local Glass Technician Competes for National Championship
Kent Gines, a glass service technician for Glass Doctor of St. George, competed in the American Master Installer Auto Glass Championship held Oct. 6-7 in Las Vegas, Nev., in conjunction with the GlassBuild America trade show.
Saint George, TX, November 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Gines represented glass service technicians at the more than 375 Glass Doctor locations nationwide.
“This is a great honor for Kent not only to be qualified for the competition, but to perform so well,” said Dale Watkins, owner of Glass Doctor of St. George. “We are proud Kent is part of our outstanding team.”
Sponsored by the National Glass Association (NGA), the Master Installer Championship is a biennial invitation-only competition. The best auto glass technicians in the country are judged on their knowledge of repair and replacement standards and the quality of their work in a timed environment. Points are awarded for customer service interaction, safety, correct procedures and care of the customer’s vehicle.
A 15-year veteran of the glass services industry, Gines is the only fully certified NGA glass technician in St. George. He also follows all standards by the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards (AGRSS) Council and the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard (ROLAGS) for replacement and repair of windshields. Gines is certified in Dow and Sika adhesive use as well. These standards and certifications assure customers their windshield repairs and replacements are completed according to the best practices in the industry.
“Kent is a consummate professional, and he’s a positive influence on everyone he meets,” Watkins said. “He took his son, Kolbey, to the competition with him because Kolbey is really interested in his dad’s trade and wants to be just like Kent. All through the competition Kolbey was his cheerleader. These days that’s great to see, it’s what we’re all about at Glass Doctor.”
