Ignorant Poet: Scottish-American Poet to Release Inaugural Book

Chicago, IL, October 31, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Scottish-American Poet Stuart Eric Card has announced that his first book “Ignorant and Agnostic: Poems and Other Words” will be released and available to the public November 14, 2008, through Lulu.com.

Mr. Card boldly claims that his collection of poems, lyrics, and rhythmic word will challenge readers on metaphysical, religious, and social issues such as poverty and the homeless. Mr. Card states that while not all of his poetry holds such lofty goals, those poems that do will challenge the reader to face one’s own belief and stance on the respective issues.

“I know that I know nothing,” a phrase made famous by the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates is said to be the basis for Mr. Card’s own philosophy. Mr. Card adds “that I know that I know nothing and that I know that I can know nothing else are the reasons I am ignorant. But whatever the reasons are that keep us all from sympathizing and understanding the world’s hungry is what makes us all ignorant.” Further explaining the title for his first book Card proclaims “paradoxes aside, poetry has also helped me wrestle with my own spirituality.”

“Ignorant and Agnostic” is split into three chapters of poetry. The first chapter “Ignorant” is poetry, prose, and lyrics devoted to epistemology, poverty, and the fear of being mediocre, or as Mr. Card put it “our inability to know, our unwillingness to care, and our acceptance of the status quo.” The second chapter, entitled “And,” houses Mr. Card’s more personal and sometimes dark poetry covering a broad span of topics, such as tragic family losses, personal identity, his love for his sons, and drinking, to name a few. The third and final chapter “Agnostic” chronicles the author’s struggle with faith, spirituality, and religion.

Although his efforts to avoid being “dumb and faithless” have failed in his estimations, Mr. Card hopes that his internal debates archived in “Ignorant and Agnostic: Poems and Other Words” will add to the rich tapestry of American Poetry. Mr. Card invites the public to judge for themselves at www.lulu.com and soon to be found on Amazon.com and other booksellers.
