Frankie, a Dachshund in a Wheelchair, is Nominated to the Wisconsin Pet Hall of Fame

Frankie overcame adversity with exquisite grace after suffering from a spinal injury which caused paralysis. Frankie teaches us that animals with disabilities can live quality lives and give back to the world in a positive way.

Elkhart Lake, WI, November 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Frankie is best known as the “walk ‘n roll dog.” After suffering a ruptured disk and not regaining use in her back legs she was custom fit for a dog cart. She now rolls into schools, nursing homes, hospice centers and hospitals and brings hope and inspiration to all who face challenges.

The ten inch high dog brings smiles to everyone she encounters. She also teaches others by her positive attitude that dogs with disabilities can live a full, long life. This is one of the many reasons she has been nominated by her vet, Dr. Greg Bohn of the Kettle Moraine Veterinary Center. Here is some of what Frankie’s vet had to say about her in his nomination letter, “When Frankie visits our clinic, you can feel her presence. She has a contagious optimism that causes everyone to pause and notice because they want to be a part of that good feeling that Frankie imparts. As a veterinarian, she has taught me that it is not the outcome that is so important. It is the journey that holds the most meaning. This insight has made me a better doctor.”

Julie Hauck, a 3rd grade teacher at Longfellow School had to say this after Frankie visited her classroom, “Frankie is inspiring to our elementary students because she is proof that a disability is not a brick wall, but rather an open door. Many students that met Frankie were facing their own set of obstacles. Frankie is a messenger for children and adults alike to never give up hope.” Ruth a fan of Frankie’s after reading her story wrote, ”Frankie really is a little miracle dog. She has such a positive attitude…she rolls with the punches. Roll on, Frankie. You are a hero.”

Frankie’s owner, Barbara Techel, looked for the blessing in Frankie’s paralysis and wrote Frankie’s story in the form of a children’s book. It is told in Frankie’s voice and shares how her life began as a dog that walked on all fours, to a dog that now rolls along in a wheelchair. Her zest for life will have you cheering and she will give you hope that all things are possible. Frankie will leave an everlasting and loving paw print on your heart. It really is a book for all ages to teach anyone about overcoming challenges and also compassion for the physically challenged.
