Power Transmission Leader Selects Configure One's Product Configurator

After Extensive Evaluation, Sumitomo Drive Technologies Partners with Configure One to Open New Markets

Oak Brook, IL, November 07, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Configure One™ www.configureone.com, a leading provider of web-based product configurator software, today announced that Sumitomo Machinery Corporation of America, Inc.—a world leader in the Power Transmission market for over 40 years—selected Configure One’s Concept Enterprise Product ConfiguratorTM after an extensive vendor analysis that spanned several years.

Driven by customer demands to provide downloadable 3D CAD models and a need to standardize quotation forms and processes, Sumitomo Drive Technologies decided that a product configurator would address those needs, and allow the company to expand its markets.

Sumitomo’s vendor analysis was more detailed than most. The company’s software evaluation process was part of a larger project, “to begin the process of rethinking how we sold the product, not how we built it,” said Brian Perkins, information technology director for Sumitomo Drive Technologies.

Using the Internet to research the market, the Sumitomo project team arrived at an initial list of 27 potential configurator vendors. The project team established some “rules” to limit the scope of the evaluation. Some of the applications were focused on engineering, while others were part of an integrated ERP solution.

The list of potential vendors was brought down first to seven, and then to three finalists. “The final candidates were invited to visit us on-site and present their solution to our project team including executive management,” said Perkins.

According to Perkins, Configure One provided the best overall set of tools: “The biggest factor in our decision came from the Proof of Concept (POC). We spent very little time explaining our product and process to Configure One, however they captured the essence of our product perfectly in the POC. This told us that they had extensive experience working with manufacturing companies, and easily encapsulated our requirements into their solution.”

Ron Mouw, vice president, business development for Configure One, said, “The fact that a market leader such as Sumitomo Drive Technologies selected Configure One, after an exhaustive evaluation process, reinforces our claim as a leader in the product configurator market.”

“We consider this purchase the start of a long partnership,” added Perkins. “We are looking forward to exploring configuration and quotation solutions for our customer base. Using tools such as Concept TM, we expect an increased interest in our products and an increase in sales.”
