Morton Grove Action Party Announces Slate of Candidates for 2009 Election
Morton Grove, IL, November 09, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Morton Grove Action Party proudly announces its slate of candidates for the upcoming April 2009 municipal election. Five seats on Morton Grove’s Village Board will be on the April ballot.
The Action Party, a grassroots Morton Grove-based political party, prides itself in the fact that its members are non-partisan – Democrats, Republicans, and Independents – who are dedicated to providing the Village of Morton Grove with experienced, independent, and dedicated leadership.
Daniel J. Staackmann, slated by the Action Party for the office of Village President, is currently serving in his second term as Trustee on the Village Board. Staackmann has been a Village Trustee since 2003. The Morton Grove Champion stated that Staackmann “is not afraid to speak his mind. A lifelong resident of Morton Grove, he has a passion for the village.” In an editorial, the Champion also cited Staackmann for his integrity.
Staackmann served on the Morton Grove Park Board for 16 years. The Champion also called Staackmann a “strong leader” with regard to helping the Park Board “end its financial mess.” In 2001, Staackmann was awarded the Illinois Association of Park District’s “Outstanding Board Member” award. Staackmann also served as Board Member, Treasurer, and President for the Maine-Niles Special Recreation Association.
As a founding member of the Morton Grove Days Committee, Staackmann served as President of the organization. He is also past Treasurer of the Morton Grove Foundation, past Board Member of the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce, and was honored in 1993 as “Man of the Year” by the Liponi Foundation. In addition, Staackmann is a member of the Morton Grove Moose Lodge, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Luxembourg Brotherhood.
Daniel P. DiMaria, slated by the Action Party for the seat of Trustee, has been a Morton Grove resident since 1997. A graduate of Notre Dame High School in Niles, and Loyola University (with a degree in political science), DiMaria currently serves on the Liponi Foundation and the Morton Grove Foundation. He is also a member of the Chicago Board of Trade/CME Group. DiMaria is past Vice President of the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce.
DiMaria served as Village Trustee from 2001 to 2007. Prior to that, he served as Village Clerk and as a Commissioner on the Appearance Commission. After taking a hiatus from village government to spend time with his wife, Melodee, and their five children, DiMaria is now refreshed and ready to once again put his previous Board experience to work for the Village.
Larry Gomberg, slated for the seat of Trustee by the Action Party, was a Village Trustee from 2000 until 2005. Gomberg also served the Village as a Commissioner on the Community Relations Commission and Economic Development Commission.
Gomberg is a former Golf-Maine Township Park Board Commissioner and served as Trustee on the Niles Township Board of School Trustees. A local businessman, Gomberg and his wife, Diane, have lived in Morton Grove for 23 years. They have three college-aged children.
Bill Grear, a life-long resident of Morton Grove, has also been slated by the Action Party for the seat of Trustee. Grear is proud that the Action Party trustees think for themselves and vote their conscience, always putting the best interests of Morton Grove first.
Grear, in his first run for a municipal seat, has been the President of the Action Party since 2005. Grear is a fixture at Village Board meetings. In addition, Grear is a member of a large family that all attended St. Martha Parish, including his three children with wife, Janice.
Tony S. Kalogerakos, has been slated by the Action Party for the seat of Village Clerk. Kalogerakos is an attorney with a private practice in Lincolnwood. He is a graduate of Loyola University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Kalogerakos is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Cook County Bar Association, and Hellenic Bar Association.
